Prasai's Thai Downtown: where it started

Casual fine dining at 428 2nd Ave. East — the first Prasai's, open 1998. Preserved here as the restaurant described it.

“Enjoy authentic Thai cuisine and gracious hospitality in downtown Twin Falls, ID. Generous portions of savory dishes await you at the original Prasai's Thai location. Relax over a selection from our wine and beer list, try one of our daily specials or revisit your favorite dishes.” — that is how the restaurant introduced its downtown room, in its own words, and it barely changed between 2008 and 2020. Some invitations do not need rewriting.

The room

The downtown location was the original 1998 Prasai's: white-tablecloth-casual, daily specials on the board, a wine and beer list, and portions with a local reputation. It was also the business's engine room — Rick Johnson managed operations from here while Prasai (Amm) Johnson ran the menu. Carryout and delivery went out from this kitchen on a fifteen-dollar minimum, and the banquet room seated forty for parties, business dinners and wild game dinners.

The room today

The downtown dining room has since closed — current listings mark the 2nd Avenue location as no longer operating. The kitchen itself carried on: Prasai's serves today from the THAI 2 GO location on Fillmore Street, and Prasai's today has the details. If you ate in the downtown room, that page is the sequel.
